- Born in Cedar Falls, educated at Price Lab (UNI) School, UNI, & Drake University College of Pharmacy;
- Paper boy for largest route in Cedar Falls, worked later at Viking Pump;
- US Marines, Viet Nam, received Purple Heart, wounded, lost right leg;
- Since 1999-2006, has owned the Waukee Medicap pharmacy, understands small business;
- National Jaycees top 25 Presidential Award - a real leader!;
- Waukee School Board, third term, fastest growing school in Iowa. Recognized as a leader in education, serves on the Board of Iowa Association of School Boards;
- Dallas County Empowerment board, oversees grants for preschool education;
- Active member of his community: Rotary Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Waukee United Methodist Church serving currently on the Pastor/Parish Relations Team
Russ and his wife, Ilyeen (a fellow pharmacist) have two children, Carrie will be a senior, and Martin will be in 9th Grade in Waukee Schools;- Russ states he supports a woman's right to make her own reproductive choices - he is a husband and has a daughter who he believes should make these decisions themselves as members of a family.
